Shakira’s ex-partner Gerard Piqué has finally broken his silence 10 months after they split amid a cheating scandal. In a new interview, the former soccer player says he’s “very happy” in his relationship with new girlfriend Clara Chia Marti.

Shakira’s Ex Gerard Piqué Breaks Silence After Split

According to E! News, Piqué told Spanish newspaper El Pais that he chose not to comment on his split from Shakira to protect their two children, Milan and Sasha. He shared, “That is what I am focused on and that is my job as a father.”

“I keep doing what I want,” Piqué went on to say. “The day I die, I will look back and hope I have always done what I wanted. I want to be faithful to myself. I’m not going to spend money cleaning up my image.”

Piqué also said that he’s focused on spending time with his loved ones, adding, “I’m very happy. There have been changes in my life and I have known how to preserve happiness.”

In January, Piqué shared an Instagram photo with his new girlfriend, Clara Chia Marti. He and Shakira announced their split last year after 11 years together, amid rumors that he cheated on her.

Shakira Has Been Dragging Piqué Through Music

While Piqué has remained mostly silent about his split from Shakira, the singer has been sharing how she feels through music. In January, she released a collaboration with Argentine DJ Bizarrap called “BZRP Music Sessions #53.”

“I’m not getting back with you, don’t cry for me, nor beg me,” she sings on the track. “I understood that it’s not my fault that they criticize you / I only make music, sorry that it bothers you.”

Then in February, Shakira seemed to take more digs at Piqué on the song “TQG” with Karol G. In the lyrics, Shakira sings, “What your girlfriend threw at me, that doesn’t even make me angry, I laugh.”
