The Voice Australia aired its grand finale over the weekend, as singer Tarryn Stokes was named the Season 12 winner. This marks coach Rita Ora’s second consecutive win on the series, having won with artist Lachie Gill last year.
During the finale, host Sonia Kruger announced that Tarryn was the Season 12 winner. In her Blind Audition, the 40-year-old singer turned all four coaches’ chairs with her performance of “She Used to Be Mine” from the musical Waitress.
Tarryn actually already knew two of the coaches. She and Guy Sebastian recorded a duet together called “Magic,” and she also toured with Jessica Mauboy. However, she decided to “take a risk and do something new” by choosing to join Ora’s team.
After she was announced as the winner, Tarryn thanked her coach “for believing in me,” adding, “I feel like The Voice has actually changed my life.”
“I don’t like to boast, but I have to say, it feels good to win,” Ora said when Kruger pointed out this was her second win in a row as a coach. She told Tarryn, “It’s just incredible. You’re incredible. This opportunity is incredible. Please answer my phone calls once in a while.”

Aside from Tarryn’s win, another notable aspect of the Season 12 finale was the presence of coach Jason Derulo. The singer is currently the subject of controversy, as he is being sued for sexual harassment.
Aspiring singer Emaza Gibson has accused him of signing her to his label and then pressuring her to have sex with him. Derulo has denied the claims, posting a social media video in which he calls Gibson’s accusations “completely false,” adding that he’s “deeply offended” by the lawsuit.
Derulo was a new coach on this season of The Voice Australia. This season’s finale episode was reportedly pre-recorded, although the winner was still decided by viewers. Each of the four finalists was apparently filmed celebrating as if they won, but only the actual winner’s footage was used.
